Transforming the east side into a vibrant “smart growth” community

A New Gateway

On December 14, 2009, East Street’s connection to I-70 (Baltimore), and I-270 (Washington) was officially dedicated and became a brand new major gateway to the heart of Frederick.

This roadway also made an enormous amount of land—1800 acres—much more accessible and very attractive for redevelopment.

Valuable Real Estate

Redevelopment along East Street makes the 1800 acres between it and Monocacy Boulevard more valuable as well.

The area outlined in yellow is what we’d like to see revitalized and developed according to “smart growth” principles.
